New Energy and Experienced Leadership

Meet Marvin Wilmoth,

Vice Mayor and Harbor Island Commissioner

Marvin is a first-generation Honduran-American, a husband, a community builder, and civic leader. His first priority is you. Each person that calls North Bay Village home is important and having the opportunity to engage with the community is what inspired him to run for Harbor Island Commissioner.  Marvin wants to change the narrative of the Village, and that means getting back to the business of a well-functioning and transparent local government.  Each day, we will lead and prepare the Village to deal with all current and future challenges to improve the quality of life for every resident.

Marvin was born on the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville and raised in South Florida by his mother, a retired Spanish teacher, and father, an Army and Navy Veteran, both of whom immigrated to the United States from Honduras in Central America.

As an 8-year resident of North Bay Village, Marvin has dedicated himself to serve as the Vice Chair of the Planning and Zoning Board and the Charter Review Commission. The leadership positions he holds will leverage his relationships with business, political and civic leaders from across the state to help advance the interests of North Bay Village.

Marvin began his career in finance at JPMorgan in New York working to help companies grow their business and execute strategic transactions. He has spent the last 8 years of his career in community development focused on providing housing opportunities for working individuals and essential service employees such as teachers, civil servants, and first responders. His work in community development created an economic impact of over $350 million.

Marvin earned a B.S. and M.B.A. from Florida A&M University, where he graduated with honors and an M.A. from Columbia University in New York.  Marvin lives on Harbor Island with his wife, Jodie.

PRIORITIES

Economic Growth

Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the backbone of North Bay Village. Our community is poised for economic growth. With Marvin’s experience as a small business owner paired with our community’s support, we will prioritize small businesses when allocating resources to drive growth. Together we will think innovatively to usher in new policies that are business-friendly to make sure our Village is open for business.

Infrastructure Improvement

North Bay Village will prosper if we are physically resilient. Our ability to successfully execute major infrastructure and beautification projects will determine the Village’s preparedness to attract investment and deal with the effects of climate change. Becoming a resilient city will reflect in our mission, as we work collaboratively with community leaders to preserve our home and solve the problems that matter most. Marvin’s experience in construction management gives him unique insight and the ability to add thoughtful dialogue as we work to solve our challenges together.

Improved Communication

Your trust matters, and the foundation of any well-functioning government is an engaged and informed electorate. Being an effective leader means sharing information openly and actively maintaining the trust of the Village’s community members. Transparency in all operations and decision making will be the center of Marvin’s communication strategy.
